okay! so whats worse, not to have a blog or to have one I can't seem to keep up to date? With all the processing, galleries for clients, backing up and more backing up there never seems to be time for doing new creative work or posting here. I was going to try and put together a post from all the pre-holiday sessions but I think I'm going to just jump in and add a few right now for fear I don't get around to all of them. So here's some random family stuff

Founding Mom, Jill Salzman

The founding Mom of The Founding Moms, Jill Salzman had her book launch last night at Maya Del Sol and I was there to be the "photog" for the night.
"Found it" A Field Guide for Mom Entrepreneurs is now available for purchase from The Book Table one of the sponcers of last night event.

There was lot's of great food, so great I never got to take a photo of a full plate. Brill illustrations from the book up on display and crafts by Aunt Peaches for the young at heart.

And the snow did not keep people away, the place was over flowing with a wonderful mix of people.

Snow Day 1

It's here, the snow is finally falling.
And who better than my little companion Siofra to share the first few steps in the fresh show with.

Birth photography discount

My first discount of the new year is on birth photography. Up until now the births I have photographed have been home-births but I am available to photograph where ever you are planning to birth your baby.

The intensity and emotion is so powerful during these shoots I just want to do more. Birth photography is priced a little different than most of my other sessions. It is done in a documentary style. Although one may not want large prints of all the images on the wall most people would like a copy of each image to tell the story from start to finish, so I give the client a disc with all the images (usually in B&W, some color additions) so they can then make an album or book. The fee is usually $600, birth can take a long time, but for anyone planning a Jan or Feb birth I am offering it for $400. If you are interested drop me a line to discuss the details of how it all works. Since one usually doesn't know when the baby is going to say the time is right, we have to makes plans so we're all in the right place at the right time.

Pricing for Fine Art prints has come down a little this year. I will also be adding framing and archival mats to my products since a lot of you ask about framing. Check back in Feb to see example of what I have to offer.

Holiday Cards and Images

For much of Nov and Dec I am busy with holiday card images and family portraits that will be used as gifts during the holiday season. Some cards I design, some people use photos I've taken to build cards elsewhere. The most fun (and the most work for me) is the concept card. I only do a few of these a year and here is a couple.

I worked with this family for the first time last year, you might remember the elves working hard with the baby santa giving orders from her highchair, this year we added in Mom and Dad. I take no credit for the wording they did that, but I think it pulls the concept together perfectly.

This next one is also a return client, 5th year in a row. The parents are totally open to whatever concept I come up with which is always great.

Front, Inside and Back of the card

and ANOTHER return client, for the 3rd year. Elegant is the word that comes to mind with these two girls this year, seeming so grown up since the year before.

This image was used on the front of a tiny print designed card, I took it at the end of a family portrait session. Two more of my photos were used on the back, but more from that shoot later.

Not all cards are concept based, most are a single nice portrait, or a series of lifestyle shots.

Some I never even see, some clients take the digital files and I never get to see what they do with them, but Im sure they make family and friends smile. And there is one every now and then that doesn't get used because I design a card and the client only needs prints.

Happy New Year 2012

Start of a new year means changes. Today I'm moving my blog back over here, I haven't posted here in a couple of years so bare with me as I get the design and layout figured out. I hope to redo my whole website this year.

My main areas of focus for the first part of this year will be environmental portraits and documentary photography.

The three projects I am most proud of from 2011 are a home-birth I photographed, the day I spent photographing children for Flashes of Hope, and a little street photo project I did one day, so I definitely want to work more in these areas.

Since having children family photography has dominated my work, this year I want to work a lot more with professionals developing their image, especially small business owners.

So anyone out there looking for a networking profile image, a new business portrait or a series of image to show who and what you do and where you do it please contact me, I am excited to get working on new projects.

Now through June I am doing a recession session for seniors graduating high school, or moving from middle to high school, ok any tween/teen is fine with me. This is a 45 minute lifestyle shoot, 3 looks in the Oak Park area, weekdays or weekends. $125.

Yes I've been pretty slow with additions here with the start of the new year. Taking a little down time after the busy holiday season. Hope everyone liked their photos gifts. Thank you all for giving me the opertunity to work with your family to produce some great images and holiday cards. Eventually I will update my portfolio and you will see snipets from our shoot on my web-site. I have a lot of additions for my family relationship folder.
Here are some babies we saw just a few months ago, leaving the newborn stage, we will see then again a coupld of time for their first year in photographs.

This last image, is the first in a new series I will be doing over this year. Mentors. I have picked 3 people to start this new portrait series and Hannah was my first subject. Hannah is a film director, the mother of 3 girls (the 3 girls in red holiday pj's on a posting below), she knits, she grows some of her own food and cans, she crafts, and this is just a little of what she does, so I went to her house to capture this.

With summer here, there hasn't been much time for updating this section of my site, but I thought I'd better add something. So here's from the past two days.
I have 6 weeks left before my expected due date, so have been slowing down with work, only taking booking for a week in advance. If you have a newborn or another request do call, I will try to work in a few more shoots, before I get to point I feel I am just too big for the photographic flow.

So I have entered the 3rd trimester of my maternity. (this is a client in the image not me) What a wonderful expierence, it's so much fun to watch the baby move my body around. Photography work has been busy, between graduations, weddings, pregnancy and newborns there is a lot going on.

I still have a few openings for June and July portrait sessions. I know a few of you have been asking, so please do confirm a time soon. The longer event, I will not be doing after July 13th. I will try to do any newborn portraits up to the time of my own.

This is a big change in their and the parents life, so I am offering a mini special on May 11th and 24/25th. Here are two images from a maternity shoot I did this weekend for a lovely woman who is due her first baby in june.

As some of you already know, I am expecting the birth of my second child around Aug. 20th. We at the Molony-Pellettieri household are very excited, and Taron is looking forward to a sibling. I'm sure I will be adding photo's to the blog as I grow.
Due to this, I will not be taking bookings for most of Aug. or Sept. but I will be back in action in plenty of time for the holiday photos and card designs. If you are due your baby early in Aug. or later in Sept. do give me a call, we may be able to work it out. Event work will not be possible during these two months. If you have a gift certificate please think about these dates, so you do get to use it at a good time for you pre or post Aug./Sept.

What a great show, see the artists at work creating these wonderful colors, then cutting the ice slabs into shape for the sculpture. Sunday had a large group of people show up to watch the artists working.

Today I got the pleasure of attending St. Theresa's Catholic Mission Lunar New Year celebration in Chinatown-Chicago. After the mass there was a family blessing, ancestoral blessing ceremony followed by lunch and traditional dancing by children for St. Theresa's school.

West Suburban PADS

Some facts to start,
1) most homeless, up to 65% are homeless for less than 15 days.
2) Statistics show that up to 45% of homeless people are working full or part-time positions. A person working full-time at $7.00 per hour ($2.50 more than the $5.50 miniumum wage) earns$14,560 annually before taxes. Many others are disabled and are unable to work, or their benefits are not enough to afford housing and daily living expenses.
3) 57% of persons in Transitional Housing are children.

Being poor can mean that someone is only an illness, an accident, or a paycheck away from homelessness.
West Suburban PADS is a wonderful group of people that help those in crisis get back on their feet. Through their many programs they feed, house and provide people with access to find work and homes.

Each night of the week at a different location in the Oak Park area a shelter is set up with sleeping pads, a blanket and a pillow. Food is cooked and served by volunteer families and people from the local community.
At 7.15pm guest enter the building, get signed in, dress their pad for the night, and get a hot meal.
One night each week at First United Church in Oak Park there is a medical clinic for guests to avail of.

Then it's lights out for the night. In the morning the guests get breakfast and a pack lunch. A wake-up call is available for those whose work starts before the 7am time to leave.

At the day center in Maywood, open weekdays, there is case management, showers, lockers, access to voice mail and internet to find work, job referrals etc...

Monday night when the temp. was way below freezing I went to the shelter at First United and met the guests and volunteers, and took these photos. It was a really nice group of people, some with sad stories. One man with a brain tumor, waiting to get an operation. Another, this was his first ever night in a shelter after loosing his home because he ran into some health issues and lost his job, therefore his insurance. The health issues seemed to far out weigh the usual presumed 'addiction' that we think of with homeless. And the guest that night did not for the most part resemble street people, just regular people we interact with on a daily bases.

After the hussle and bussel of the holiday season, now comes to slow calmness of a new year.

I got to meet lot's of famalies ond cute kids in Nov. and got to work on some very cute holidays cards as well as some new gift idea's that I will be offering everyone this year.

Of course we've been seeing a lot of snow and ice, so I've added a personless art image to the blog today.

And then a shot to remind us of warmer days.

Yesterday was a busy day. In the morning I was setting up for a holiday card shoot of two little girls that have been seen on my site before. Of course my son Taron wanted to get in on the action when he saw his babies were going to be used for an idea I had.
Then we added in some santa visuals with the girls for their holiday card.

For some reason I get to photograph a lot more girls than boys, women than men, but today I had the pleasure of working with Ivan, a 17 year old.

We hang out chatted about music, art and holidays, what they are now compaired to what they used to be. We stopped at 3 spots around Oak Park and took lots of great photos of Ivan, so here are a few to share.

Last night I started a photo documentary project for "West Suburban PADS" I will be taking photos to document the great work they do with houseing the homeless, and getting people back on their feet after a rough stage in their life. Weekend

Mostly I keep to my photography here on this blog, but last month I mentioned my new find in Oak Park, The Thousand Villages, the perfect place to buy gifts and toys and items for the house, all fair trade. This months fine is "CELEBRATIONS HOLIDAY SHOP" at 617 Madison St. just west of East St. It is sooo cute and someplace that would put one in good form just to walk in there. The outside is covered in beautiful autumn wreaths, and as you walk in the door your get a back in time feel. Little rooms filled with Christmas tree's and handmade decorations. Definately a must see for the holiday shoppers. Heidy, the lady that only weeks ago opened the place is very friendly, (she even gave me a plant just for visiting the store) and makes a lot of the items herself. Go visit, she's open late.

And on another note, it's almost Nov. and will be getting cold soon, remember those less fortunate, those attending soup kitchens, those sleeping in shelters and on the streets. Above image is from last year, at The Franciscian Outreach soup kitchen in Chicago. There are many such organisation that are worth volenteering with.

Yesterday I went to photography the twin babies again, but there big sister Twyla was much more into working for the camera. At two years old she quite the cutie. Her momma was one of my first maternity models back in 2005, so it is nice to keep a record of these little one's growing.

Apple Picking

A true autumn Sunday, meeting up with family to go apple picking, walk through a corn maze and take a hay ride. It's that time of year, and it's a lot of fun. We drove to a couple of farms up in Woodstock, where you get a bag and get to walk through the orchards and fill your baf with all different tart and sweet apples. Some people brought picnic's which is a great idea. Then we went to another farm store with all kinds of good stuff like cranberry jam and mink chocolate sause. Out back was a tractor ride, and corn maze, very cool! Definately a good family day out.

Today I got a new lens that i've wanted for a while. I splashed out and got something for me, well for work too, but I was like a kid on Christmas morning when I opened the door and saw it sitting on the porch. So as Taron spent a few minutes with Scoop (for those of you who know Bob the Builder) in the dirt, I tested out the new lens. It's starting to show that Taron is used to the camera when he makes these kinds of faces now when he see's it come out. And yes the lens is just what I needed.

Film Stills

Almost a year ago I spent most of a day shooting film stills. It was my first time doing stills and was a very interesting day. During my years in San Francisco I worked in a rental house, so knew most of the film equiptment and lingo, but hadn't been around it in a while, so it was fun to watch. I thought still photography was slow, boy is film even more so!

What was great about the day for me was that all the crew were film students, since it has been 10 years since I was in art school it was exciting to be around all these guys for a day. Friday again, and a beautiful one. With the end of the summer coming and the thoughts of the long winter we just need to sit outside and soke in this warm, while not too warm air. Spend time at the park with the kids, and go to those last few outdoor festivals. Last weekend we caught Deloras Riordan of The Cranberries at Chicago Celtic Fest. Wow did that bring back memories of my teenage year at home in Ireland. It was Taron's first big rock music concert I believe. He's been to lot's of smaller show's but I think this louder than he's used to outdoors. Next year he'll be really for lot's more.

It seems to be new baby time of year for me. I've had the pleasure of photography a few recently, including my first set of twins, and my nephew in Ireland in Aug. Here is a sample of what i did with those little one's.

Ten Thousand Villages

For those of you living in or near Oak Park, Ten Thousand Villages has just opened a store on Marion St. right in the middle of the construction, but so worth a visit. Lot's of great items for the coming holiday season. For those not awear of these stores they are FAIR TRADE, so the people making and growing the items are getting a fair price for their work, no child labor etc...

Special on kids photography

Starting again with a new layout, someday I'll get the one I like (hopefully that day is today) and will stick to it, sorry to anyone who came to look at a previous post.

I'll start with this current photo of Taron, and as before I will add some shots from new sessions as we go, and add info on any current specials I am offering. At the moment I am running a mini session special for kids. Mon. to Fri mornings in the Oak Park area, $125 for a half hour shoot.
